Mrs Hudson had bought Holmes two telegrams regarding this case, one from Colonel Ross the owner of the horse and the other from Inspector Gregory requesting his help. The disappearance of the famous racehorse Silver Blaze and the murder of the trainer John Straker turned out to be a complex case.  As usual Holmes identified a vital clue which had escaped everyone else’s notice.

“Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?”

“To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.”

“The dog did nothing in the night-time”

“That was the curious incident,” remarked Sherlock Holmes.

The artefact we chose from this story was a horseshoe belonging to Silver Blaze as it played an important part in the murder.
